    So now that we know what nutrients are necessary for good health, what are the best foods to get them from? Fruits and vegetables are the obvious choice. Here's a few pointers.

    The ideal is fresh and organic. Organic means no chemical pesticides or fertilizers were used.

    Pesticides can cause health problems, such as birth defects, nerve damage, cancer, and other effects that might occur over a long period of time. These effects depend on how toxic the pesticide is and how much of it is consumed. Some pesticides pose unique health risks to children who are especially sensitive due to the facts that;

  1. Their organs are still in development so their bodies may have difficulty removing the pesticides.

  2. Pesticides may block the absorption of important food nutrients.

  3. In relation to their body weight, children eat more than adults increasing their exposure.

    Similar statements apply to the fertilizers and herbicides used in commercial farming. You can trust that the "gubment" is looking out for your best interests (lol) via the EPA and the FDA if you'd like, or you can choose not to have carcinogens and nerve toxins in and on your food. Not even “acceptable levels”. Of course chemically poisoned fruit is still presumably healthier than Oreos and Twinkies.
